Ama Yoga is a non-profit organization founded in 2010 offering balance, healing and transformation through establishing yoga programs in homeless shelters and transitional housing facilities within the city of Los Angeles. In the last 6 years, over 20 weekly classes have been created in varying shelters around Los Angeles, servicing over 200 clients.
Our instructors are Yoga Certified, with at least 200 hours of yoga training, and wish to donate their time to service their communities. The classes are beginner level and accommodate the needs of each individual and group, usually meeting once a week.
Ama Yoga wishes to provide yoga programs to homeless shelters and transitional housing facilities, schools and other organizations. The goal is to educate people who may not have the access or knowledge for self healing and self empowerment through the practice of Yoga. This practice includes breathing, stretching and meditation. Our mission is to spread the true meaning of Yoga — union of body and mind — a way of life involving service, self love and healing, not just a physical practice. In ayurveda, Hindu traditional medicine, ama is the concept of anything that exists in a state of incomplete transformation.
AmaYoga is sponsored by Creative Visions Foundation, a publicly supported 501 (c)(3), which supports Creative Activists who use the power of media and the arts to affect positive change in the world. All donations are tax deductible.
